The Wedding Duel was shot at the tail end of a wedding reception and
features the groom (Mike Mijo - blue saber) vs. one of his best friends (Jimmy
Boudreaux - laughing jedi with red saber). This short feature was downloaded
over 10,000 times between November 1999 and August 2000, which really scares
me. What's more frightening is that it continues to be very popular.
Anyway, this short film (all 30 seconds of it) features some of the worst
acting and sword dueling that you're likely to ever encounter. Enjoy.
For the tech heads out there, here's the scoop on creating The Wedding Duel:
The video was shot with a Canon Elura in progressive
scan mode. The lightsabers were wooden broom handles, which I rotoscoped
frame-by-frame in Photoshop (I used Darel Finley's technique. Click
HERE to find out more). The 14 seconds of lightsaber footage took about
10 hours to finish. The lightsaber sounds are a mixture of Empire Strikes Back
clips and some audio that I recorded while getting feedback from my Fender Guitar
amp and a cheap microphone.
Video capture and editing was accomplished with Adobe Premiere 5.1. And yes,
the audio levels are WAY off.
